Annual Education Costs Calculator

Annual education costs include tuition fees (at private schools and paid universities), textbooks and school materials, transport to school or university, extracurricular activities (languages, sport, tutoring), and housing costs when studying away from home.

In a Polish public school, tuition is free, but combined with textbooks, supplies, transport and extracurricular activities the annual cost is typically 3,000–8,000 PLN per pupil. At private schools, tuition can add 6,000–30,000 PLN per year.

The calculator automatically divides the total annual cost by 12 to give you an average monthly figure. Bear in mind that costs are unevenly spread — September and January are usually the most expensive months due to textbook and supply purchases.

Tutoring costs can be entered in the "Extracurricular activities" field. Enter the annual value of all paid out-of-school activities, including tutoring, language courses, sports or arts classes.

It is best to map out all education expenses before the start of the school year. Add up planned tuition, textbook and material costs, transport passes, extracurricular fees and any housing costs. Add a 10–15% reserve for unexpected expenses.

Poland has no general tax deduction for a child's education costs. The child tax credit (ulga prorodzinna) is available for parents. Students may benefit from the youth exemption (PIT-0) and deduct certain employment-related costs. Always consult a tax adviser.

In public schools the main costs are textbooks (partly free in primary school), transport, stationery and extracurricular activities — totalling 2,000–6,000 PLN/year. Private schools add tuition that can range from 500 to 3,000 PLN per month, significantly raising the annual budget.

Options include: applying for a social or merit-based scholarship, using the School Kit support programme, contacting the local social welfare office (MOPS), checking for employer social fund subsidies, or finding free educational resources (e-textbooks, libraries). It is also worth comparing public school extracurricular offerings.

In the "Housing" field enter the annual cost of a dormitory or rented room. For example: dormitory ~750 PLN/month = 9,000 PLN/year; rented room ~1,100 PLN/month = 13,200 PLN/year. Do not include food costs — only the amount entered in the form affects the calculator results.

The calculator computes costs for a single school year based on the data you provide. It does not forecast future price changes. If you are planning a multi-year education budget, update the figures each year or add an annual inflation factor (averaging 3–5% in recent years) to each category.
