Percentage to Grade Calculator

Wondering which grade corresponds to your percentage score? This calculator instantly converts any test result (0–100%) into a grade on the Polish 1–6 school scale. The default standard scale uses the following thresholds: 0–29% = 1 (fail), 30–49% = 2 (pass), 50–74% = 3 (satisfactory), 75–89% = 4 (good), 90–97% = 5 (very good), 98–100% = 6 (excellent). Two additional presets — hard (lower thresholds) and easy (higher thresholds) — cover the common variations used by teachers in Poland. Simply enter your percentage, select the grading scale, and the calculator returns your numeric grade, its name in Polish, and a short description.

How the percentage to grade calculator works

1. Enter your percentage result in the 'Percentage' field (value from 0 to 100). 2. Select the grading scale variant: • Standard — thresholds: 30 / 50 / 75 / 90 / 98% • Hard — thresholds: 20 / 40 / 65 / 85 / 96% • Easy — thresholds: 40 / 60 / 80 / 93 / 99% 3. The calculator compares your result against the thresholds and returns: • A numeric grade (1–6) • The Polish name of the grade (e.g. 'dobry') • A short description of what the grade means Values outside the 0–100 range are automatically clamped. Negative or invalid values result in grade 1.

Example: maths test — 76 out of 100 points

A student scored 76 out of 100 points, which equals 76%. On the standard scale (threshold 75% for grade 4) this gives grade 4 (good). On the hard scale (threshold 65%) the result is still grade 4 but with more headroom. On the easy scale (threshold 80%), 76% falls below the grade-4 threshold, resulting in grade 3 (satisfactory).

Frequently asked questions

How are percentages converted to grades in Poland?

In the Polish school system a 1–6 grade scale is used. The standard thresholds are: 0–29% = 1 (fail), 30–49% = 2 (pass), 50–74% = 3 (satisfactory), 75–89% = 4 (good), 90–97% = 5 (very good), 98–100% = 6 (excellent). Individual schools and teachers may set different thresholds in their assessment policy.

What percentage do you need for a passing grade?

On the standard scale you need at least 30% to receive grade 2 (pass / dopuszczający), which is the minimum passing grade in Poland. Below 30% results in grade 1 (fail / niedostateczny).

What percentage is needed for grade 3 (satisfactory)?

On the standard scale, grade 3 (dostateczny) requires a score between 50% and 74%. It represents average mastery of the required curriculum.

Grade 4 (dobry) requires a score between 75% and 89% on the standard scale. It indicates a good command of the curriculum.

The hard scale applies lower thresholds (e.g. 20% is enough for grade 2), rewarding students on difficult tests. The easy scale applies higher thresholds (e.g. 40% needed for grade 2), typically used for simpler assessments.

Yes. Polish education law gives schools and teachers flexibility in setting percentage thresholds. Always check the assessment policy (PSO — Przedmiotowy System Oceniania) for your specific school and subject.

Percentage = (points scored ÷ maximum points) × 100. For example: 36 points out of 50 = 72% → grade 3 (satisfactory) on the standard scale.

Not necessarily. On the standard scale grade 6 starts at 98%, meaning one or two small mistakes do not drop the grade to a 5. The exact threshold depends on the scale chosen.

No. The calculator returns whole numeric grades (1–6). Plus and minus grades are assigned at teachers' discretion and depend on individual school rules that go beyond simple percentage thresholds.

Polish universities typically use a different grading scale (2–5, with half-grades like 3.5, 4.5). This calculator is designed for primary and secondary school grading (1–6). For university grading, check your institution's specific scale.

Results are for informational purposes only. Actual grading thresholds depend on each school's assessment policy (PSO) and may differ from the defaults used in this calculator. This tool does not replace official school regulations.
