Fireplace Heating Cost Calculator 2026 — Install & Wood

The fireplace heating cost calculator helps you estimate the installation cost of a fireplace and the cost of firewood for one heating season. Choose the fireplace type (air insert, water-jacket insert or free-standing stove), enter wood use in cubic metres and the price per cubic metre — the calculator returns installation cost, fuel cost and first-season cost.

How the calculator estimates fireplace costs

Installation cost = depends on type: Air insert = PLN 8,000 Water-jacket insert = PLN 18,000 Free-standing stove = PLN 3,000 Fuel cost = wood use (m³) × price per m³ First-season cost = installation cost + fuel cost

Example: air insert, 8 m³ wood, PLN 350/m³

Air insert: installation cost PLN 8,000. Fuel cost = 8 × 350 = PLN 2,800. First-season cost = 8,000 + 2,800 = PLN 10,800.

Frequently asked questions

How much does fireplace installation cost in Poland 2026?

An air insert with casing is about PLN 8,000, a water-jacket insert connected to central heating about PLN 18,000, and a free-standing stove about PLN 3,000. Prices cover the unit and basic installation but rise with new chimney construction.

How much wood does a fireplace use per season?

A supplementary fireplace uses about 5–10 cubic metres of wood per season. A water-jacket fireplace heating the whole house uses 12–20 m³. The calculator defaults to 8 m³.

How much does a cubic metre of firewood cost?

A cubic metre of seasoned wood in Poland 2026 costs PLN 250–450. Hardwood (oak, beech, hornbeam) is pricier but has higher heating value. The calculator assumes PLN 350/m³.

An air insert mainly heats the room it stands in. A water-jacket insert connects to central heating and warms the whole house but is the most expensive. A stove is the cheapest, mobile option with lower output.

A water-jacket fireplace (about PLN 18,000) heats the whole house and can be the main heat source. Its value depends on wood price versus gas or electricity — with your own wood it pays off within a few seasons.

Hardwood seasoned 1.5–2 years with moisture below 20% is best: oak, beech, hornbeam, ash. Avoid wet wood and softwood for long burns. Wood should be dry and stored under cover.

Yes. The chimney must be cleaned at least once, and 2–4 times a year with heavy use — a legal obligation. It costs about PLN 100–200 per inspection and prevents chimney fires.

Some cities have anti-smog resolutions limiting new solid-fuel fireplaces or requiring Ecodesign-compliant units. Check local regulations in your region before buying.

Supplementary fireplace heating can cut main heat-source use by 20–40% per season. Savings depend on wood price versus gas or electricity. With cheap wood a fireplace can be the cheapest heating.

It estimates installation and fuel cost for the first season at average Poland 2026 prices. It excludes chimney construction, surround, accessories, chimney sweeping and wood transport. Results are indicative.
