Moving is one of the more stressful and costly events in life. The cost depends on many factors: the distance between apartments, their size, the floor in the old and new location, and whether you hire a professional moving crew. The moving cost calculator lets you quickly estimate your expenses based on your data. Enter the distance, square footage, and the floors you are moving from and to — the calculator will compute the basic cost (transport only) and the cost with a moving crew. The estimated moving time accounts for packing and carrying based on floor area and floors. Moving crews typically charge an hourly rate, so working time directly affects the cost. Results are indicative — the final price depends on the specific moving company, season, and availability.
The calculator uses the following logic: 1. Base cost: base = 200 + distance_km x 2.5 + area_m2 x 3 2. Floor surcharge (each floor above 0 raises cost by 15%): cost_with_floors = base x 1.15^floor_from x 1.15^floor_to 3. Estimated time: time_h = round(1.5 + area x 0.04 + floor_from x 0.2 + floor_to x 0.2, 1) 4. Cost with crew: cost_with_crew = basic_cost + 50 x time_h
Distance: 50 km. Area: 50 m2. Moving from: 2nd floor. Moving to: ground floor. Base cost: 200 + 50x2.5 + 50x3 = PLN 475. Floor surcharge (1.15^2): 475 x 1.3225 = PLN 628.19. Estimated time: 1.5 + 50x0.04 + 2x0.2 = 3.9 h. Cost with crew: 628.19 + 50x3.9 = PLN 823.19.
The biggest cost drivers are distance, apartment size, and the number of floors (especially without a lift). Hiring a crew adds an hourly charge but saves time and effort. Season also matters — summer weekends are typically more expensive.
The basic cost starts at PLN 200 (fixed base) plus PLN 2.50 per kilometre and PLN 3 per square metre of apartment area. Each floor above ground level adds a 15% surcharge for both origin and destination floors.
Carrying furniture up and down stairs increases effort and time significantly. Without a goods lift, each floor requires more labour. The 15% compound surcharge per floor reflects this additional difficulty.
Base time is 1.5 hours for loading and unloading, plus 0.04 hours per square metre, plus 0.2 hours per floor at origin, plus 0.2 hours per floor at destination.
The crew cost is PLN 50 per hour multiplied by estimated moving time, added to basic cost. It covers carrying, loading, and unloading labour — not packing materials or furniture assembly.
A van without crew (basic cost) is cheaper but requires you to do all physical work yourself. With heavy or numerous items, especially on higher floors, a professional crew saves time and reduces damage risk.
Book at least 2-4 weeks in advance, and 4-6 weeks for end-of-month or summer moves. End-of-month moves are very popular. Last-minute bookings are more expensive and availability is limited.
No — the calculator covers transport and crew labour only. Professional packing is charged separately, typically PLN 100-300 depending on apartment size. Packing yourself saves this cost.
For a typical 50 m2 apartment within the same city (up to 20 km): PLN 400-800 with a basic van and PLN 700-1,500 with a full moving crew. Long-distance moves (100 km+) can cost PLN 1,500-3,500.
To reduce costs: disassemble large furniture beforehand, pack boxes yourself, avoid end-of-month and summer peak periods, compare quotes from at least 3 companies, and consider whether you need all your belongings.
Results are indicative only and may differ from actual moving company quotes. Prices depend on crew availability, season, type of furniture, and additional services. Always compare quotes from several companies before booking.
