Polish PIT income tax calculator 2026

The PIT-36L calculator helps self-employed entrepreneurs taxed under the Polish 19% flat tax regime estimate their annual tax liability. Simply enter your annual revenue, deductible costs, and health insurance contribution paid — the calculator instantly computes taxable income, tax due, and total financial obligation. The PIT-36L form is filed by sole traders and partners in civil-law partnerships who have opted for the flat tax rate. Unlike the progressive scale, there are no tax brackets or tax-free allowance. Since 2022, the health insurance contribution is no longer deductible from tax, increasing the real cost of running a business. The calculator shows the effective tax rate to help evaluate whether the flat tax is advantageous.
The calculator performs the following steps. First it computes taxable income: revenue minus deductible costs (minimum 0). Second it computes the flat tax: income × 19%. Third it computes the total obligation: tax plus the health insurance contribution paid during the year. Since 2022 the health contribution is not deductible from tax — the calculator treats it as an additional obligation. Finally it calculates the effective tax rate as the share of total obligation in revenue.
An entrepreneur earns revenue of 150,000 PLN and incurs costs of 60,000 PLN. Taxable income = 150,000 − 60,000 = 90,000 PLN. Flat tax: 90,000 × 19% = 17,100 PLN. Health insurance contribution (non-deductible since 2022): 9,000 PLN. Total obligation: 17,100 + 9,000 = 26,100 PLN. Effective rate relative to revenue: approx. 17.4%. Result is indicative and excludes full ZUS deductions.
PIT-36L is the annual tax return for entrepreneurs taxed under the 19% flat tax rate in Poland. It must be filed by 30 April of the following year. The form is exclusively for sole traders and civil-law partnership members who have opted for the flat rate.
The flat tax rate is 19% regardless of income level. There are no progressive brackets or tax-free allowance, which differentiates it from the progressive tax scale. The uniform rate can be advantageous for high earners.
Taxable income = revenue minus deductible costs. Revenue includes all business receipts, while costs are documented expenditures incurred to generate revenue. If costs exceed revenue, taxable income is zero.
Since 2022 the health insurance contribution is no longer deductible from income tax on PIT-36L. Entrepreneurs pay 4.9% of income (minimum approx. 314.96 PLN/month). It can be deducted from taxable income up to a limit of 8,700 PLN per year in 2026.
The 19% flat tax is generally more beneficial at incomes above 120,000–130,000 PLN per year, when the progressive 32% bracket applies. Below that threshold the progressive scale with the 30,000 PLN tax-free allowance may be more favourable. Each case should be assessed individually.
No. Choosing the flat tax excludes the option of filing jointly with a spouse and the family relief. This is a significant disadvantage for families with children or spouses with large income differences.
Flat tax filers can deduct ZUS social contributions, health insurance up to the 8,700 PLN cap, prior-year business losses, and R&D expenditure. The family relief, rehabilitation relief, and other personal reliefs are not available.
The change can be made by the 20th day of the month following the first month in which income was earned in the new year — usually by 20 February. The decision is binding for the entire tax year.
Monthly or quarterly advance payments are prepayments towards the annual tax liability. After filing PIT-36L a final settlement is made. If advances exceeded the tax due, a refund is issued. If they fell short, the balance must be paid.
