Birth Grant Calculator (Becikowe)

The Polish birth grant (becikowe) is a one-time payment of 1000 PLN awarded by the local municipality (gmina) or social welfare centre upon the birth of a child. In 2026, the income criterion requires that the average monthly net income per person in the household does not exceed 1922 PLN. This calculator lets you instantly check whether your family meets the income threshold. Simply enter the monthly net income per person and the number of people in your household. The calculator will compare your figure against the 2026 threshold and show whether the grant applies. Please note that the final decision is made by your local municipality — this tool is for informational purposes only.

How the birth grant calculator works

The calculator takes two inputs: 1. Net income per person (PLN/month) — enter the average monthly net household income divided by the number of people, based on the year preceding the application. 2. Number of people in the household — include the applicant, spouse or partner, and any dependent children. The calculator then compares the entered income against the 1,922 PLN threshold: - If income per person ≤ 1,922 PLN → result: 'Yes' — the grant is payable (1,000 PLN). - If income per person > 1,922 PLN → result: 'No' — the income criterion is not met. Note: the calculator does not check additional formal requirements (medical certificate, application deadline). Contact your local municipality (gmina) to submit a complete application.

Example: family of 2+1

A household consists of 2 parents and a newborn (3 people). Total monthly net income is 5,400 PLN. Income per person = 5,400 / 3 = 1,800 PLN. The 2026 income threshold is 1,922 PLN per person. 1,800 PLN ≤ 1,922 PLN — criterion met. The birth grant of 1,000 PLN is payable.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Polish birth grant (becikowe)?

The becikowe is a one-time payment of 1,000 PLN granted by the local municipality (gmina) or social welfare centre upon the birth of a child in Poland. It is separate from the monthly Rodzina 800+ child benefit and is subject to an income means test.

What is the income threshold for the birth grant in 2026?

In 2026, the monthly net income per person in the household must not exceed 1,922 PLN. Income is assessed on the basis of the calendar year preceding the application. The threshold is reviewed by the Council of Ministers every three years.

Who can apply for the birth grant?

The mother, father or legal guardian of the child may apply. The benefit is available to Polish citizens residing in Poland and to foreign nationals legally residing and working in Poland under certain types of permits.

Yes — applicants must provide a certificate from a doctor or midwife confirming that the mother received prenatal care from at least the 10th week of pregnancy until the birth. This requirement does not apply to legal guardians or fathers who have assumed sole care of the child.

Applications are submitted to the municipal office (urząd gminy) or social welfare centre (OPS) in the applicant's place of residence. In many municipalities the form can be submitted electronically via the ePUAP platform or the Emp@tia portal (empatia.mpips.gov.pl).

The application must be submitted within 12 months of the child's birth. After this deadline the right to the grant expires and cannot be reinstated. For adopted children or children taken under legal guardianship, the 12-month period runs from the date the court order becomes final.

Yes — the grant is payable separately for each child born in the same delivery, provided the household income criterion is met for each application. For twins, the family could receive 2,000 PLN in total (1,000 PLN per child).

The birth grant (becikowe) is a one-time payment of 1,000 PLN subject to an income means test. The 800+ benefit (Rodzina 800+) is a recurring monthly payment of 800 PLN per child up to age 18 and has no income means test.

No — the birth grant is exempt from personal income tax under Art. 21(1)(8) of the Polish PIT Act. It is also not included in household income when assessing entitlement to other family benefits or social assistance.

A refusal is issued as a written administrative decision with reasons. You may appeal to the Regional Administrative College (SKO) within 14 days of receiving the decision. If the SKO also refuses, you can file a complaint with the Provincial Administrative Court (WSA). Consider consulting a lawyer specialising in family or administrative law.

The result is indicative only and does not constitute an administrative decision. Entitlement to the birth grant is determined by the relevant municipality or social welfare centre based on the submitted application and supporting documents. Consult a lawyer or social worker if in doubt.
