How the calculator works

Down payment = vehicle value × down payment (%) Residual value = vehicle value × buyout (%) Financing base = vehicle value − down payment − residual value Monthly rate = annual rate ÷ 12 Instalment (annuity) = base × rate × (1+rate)^n ÷ ((1+rate)^n − 1) Total payments = instalment × months Overall cost = down payment + total payments + residual value

Example: PLN 120,000 vehicle, 48 months

Vehicle PLN 120,000: down payment 20% = PLN 24,000; buyout 1% = PLN 1,200; financing base = PLN 94,800. Rate 7.5% p.a. = 0.625% per month. Monthly instalment ≈ PLN 2,286. Total payments = PLN 109,728. Overall cost = 24,000 + 109,728 + 1,200 = PLN 134,928.

Frequently asked questions

How does car leasing work in Poland?

A leasing company (lessor) purchases the vehicle and provides it to the client (lessee) for a fixed period — typically 24–60 months. The lessee makes monthly payments and, at the end of the contract, can buy the vehicle at the pre-agreed residual value or return it.

What is the difference between operating and financial leasing?

Operating leasing (most common): the vehicle remains lessor property; instalments are a tax-deductible business expense; VAT is reclaimed monthly. Financial leasing: the vehicle is the lessee's asset, depreciated by the lessee; only interest is deducted; VAT is reclaimed in full on the first invoice.

What residual value should I choose?

In operating leasing the residual is typically 1–20% of vehicle value. A low residual (1%) means higher monthly instalments but a cheaper buyout. A high residual (20–30%) gives lower instalments but a more expensive buyout. The choice depends on whether you plan to keep or return the vehicle.

A business can reclaim 50% VAT on instalments and running costs for a car used for mixed (business + private) purposes. Full 100% VAT reclaim is available when the car is used exclusively for business and a mileage log is maintained.

No — many leasing companies offer 0% down payment. However, a higher down payment (10–30%) reduces monthly instalments and the total financing cost, because less principal is subject to interest. Companies typically accept 0–30% of vehicle value.

Operating leasing usually offers lower monthly payments than a loan because it finances only the vehicle's depreciation (not the full value). A loan covers the full value. However, total loan cost may be lower if you plan to keep the vehicle — no leasing commission. Leasing is more tax-efficient for businesses.

You have three options: 1) Buy the vehicle at the agreed residual — it becomes your property. 2) Return the vehicle — settled for any damage and excess mileage. 3) Extend the contract or upgrade to a new vehicle.

The instalment is calculated using the annuity formula: R = P × i × (1+i)^n / ((1+i)^n - 1), where P is the financing base, i the monthly rate and n the number of months. A 7.5% annual rate (0.625%/month) gives noticeably higher instalments than 5% — the difference can be PLN 100–200/month on an PLN 80,000 base.

Consumer leasing lacks the tax benefits (no VAT or cost deduction) available to businesses. For private individuals a car loan is usually more transparent. Consumer leasing may appeal if you prefer to change cars every 3–4 years without concern for ownership.

Beyond monthly instalments: initial commission (0–3% of value), mandatory comprehensive insurance (OC/AC), excess-mileage charges (typically PLN 0.10–0.30/km), servicing and tyres, administration fees. Total leasing cost can be 15–25% above the sum of instalments.

Results are indicative only and exclude commissions, insurance, admin fees and excess-mileage charges. Review the full offer from the leasing company before signing.
