How the speeding fine tariff works

The calculator applies the 2022+ tariff tiers (fine / points): up to 10 km/h → PLN 50 / 1 pt 11–15 km/h → PLN 100 / 1 pt 16–20 km/h → PLN 200 / 2 pt 21–25 km/h → PLN 300 / 3 pt 26–30 km/h → PLN 400 / 4 pt 31–40 km/h → PLN 800 / 6 pt 41–50 km/h → PLN 1,000 / 8 pt 51–60 km/h → PLN 1,500 / 11 pt 61–70 km/h → PLN 2,000 / 13 pt over 70 km/h → PLN 2,500 / 15 pt Licence suspension (3 months) for exceeding by >50 km/h in a built-up area.

Example: exceeding by 31–40 km/h

Speeding by 31–40 km/h → PLN 800 fine, 6 penalty points, no licence suspension. For comparison, exceeding by 51–60 km/h → PLN 1,500 fine, 11 points and a 3-month licence suspension when it occurs in a built-up area (>50 km/h).

When is a licence suspended for speeding?

A driving licence is suspended for 3 months for exceeding the speed limit by more than 50 km/h in a built-up area. Since 2022 this rule applies across the whole country (previously only in built-up areas). On a repeat offence the suspension period may be extended to 6 months.

Yes. Since 2022 a repeat-offence rule applies: if a driver commits the same offence again within 2 years, the fine may be doubled. For example, repeating an excess of more than 30 km/h in a built-up area may result in a fine of up to PLN 1,600 instead of PLN 800.

No. You have the right to refuse the fine. The case is then referred to court, which may impose a penalty higher than the maximum fine (up to PLN 5,000 for one offence). Refusal makes sense when you contest the speed measurement or circumstances — it is worth gathering evidence then.

The tariff introduced in 2022 significantly raised the rates of fines for speeding and other offences. Speeding fines are split into tiers of a few to a dozen km/h. The maximum fine imposed by the police is PLN 5,000 (or PLN 6,000 for concurrent offences), and in court proceedings the penalty may be higher.

Since 2022 penalty points expire 2 years after the fine is paid (previously counted from the offence date). Points do not disappear until the fine is paid. The option to reduce points by completing training at a WORD centre was abolished for offences committed after the new rules came into force.

Yes, for an offence recorded by a speed camera or average-speed section measurement both a fine and penalty points are applied — provided the driver is identified. If the vehicle owner does not identify the driver, they may receive a fine for non-identification, but penalty points are not then applied.

Exceeding the speed limit by more than 50 km/h in a built-up area results in a fine from PLN 1,500 (the 51–60 km/h tier), a 3-month licence suspension and a high number of penalty points (11–15). It is one of the most serious road offences in the Polish tariff.
