Panel Fence Calculator 2026

The panel fence calculator helps you estimate how many panels and posts you need to fence a plot and what it costs. Enter the fence length and height, the price of one panel (2.5 m wide) and the post price — the calculator returns the number of panels, the number of posts, the material cost and the total cost including a markup for labour and base wall.

How the calculator estimates a panel fence

Panels = round up (length / 2.5 m) Posts = panels + 1 Material cost = panels × panel price + posts × post price Total cost = material cost × 1.3 (about 30% for labour and base wall)

Example: 50 m, panel PLN 180, post PLN 90

Length 50 m: panels = ceil(50 / 2.5) = 20, posts = 21. Material cost: 20 × 180 + 21 × 90 = 3,600 + 1,890 = PLN 5,490. Total cost with 30% markup = 5,490 × 1.3 = PLN 7,137.

Frequently asked questions

How do I work out the number of fence panels?

A standard fence panel is 2.5 m wide. You get the number of panels by dividing the fence length by 2.5 m and rounding up to a whole unit. For example for 50 m: 50 / 2.5 = 20 panels. The calculator does this automatically and adds posts and costs.

How many posts does a panel fence need?

The number of posts is the number of panels plus one, because panels are fitted between posts — each run is closed by two posts and consecutive panels share a common post. For 20 panels you need 21 posts. For gates and wickets add extra load-bearing posts.

How much does a panel fence cost in Poland in 2026?

Cost depends on panel type and height. A 3D fence panel 2.5 m wide costs roughly PLN 120–250, a post PLN 70–120. Together the material is about PLN 80–150 per running metre of fence. With labour and a base wall the cost rises to about PLN 150–300/rm.

On top of panels and posts the calculator adds about 30% for installation labour and extra items (clamps, post caps, point footings or a base wall, concrete). This is an indicative markup — for self-installation it will be lower, and with a prefabricated system base wall it will be higher.

The most common heights are 1.2 m, 1.5 m and 1.7 m. Fences up to 2.2 m usually need no notification. Taller panels give more privacy but cost more and load the posts more, which may require deeper footings.

Fences up to 2.2 m generally need no notification or permit. Notification is required for fences facing roads, streets, squares and other public spaces, and for fences taller than 2.2 m. Always check the local zoning plan (MPZP) and local regulations.

A base wall is not mandatory but is often used. It prevents animals digging under, separates the lawn, protects the lower edge of panels and improves looks. The most popular are prefabricated concrete base boards slid between posts. They add about PLN 40–80/rm.

Posts are set in point concrete footings to a depth of about 80–120 cm, below the frost line (depending on region). The footing diameter is usually 20–30 cm. Good footing prevents the fence from leaning under wind pressure and loads.

A 2D panel has doubled horizontal wires (two side by side) and single verticals — it is cheaper but less rigid. A 3D panel has characteristic horizontal bends that stiffen the structure, making it more durable and attractive. 3D panels are currently the most popular.

The calculator gives an indicative cost based on average market prices in Poland 2026 and a typical panel width of 2.5 m. It does not include gates, wickets, automation, corners needing extra posts, difficult ground conditions or transport. Set the final quote from a design and contractor offer.
